I caught Flogging Molly performing at Congress Theater in Chicago, on tour to support their forthcoming studio album, Speed Of Darkness
I remember several years ago seeing Flogging Molly play outdoor summer Irish Festivals to crowds of maybe 500. Now I get to shoot them playing the first night of packed out double-header concerts at Congress Theater, one of the largest movie palaces in one of the largest cities in America.
And what better timing than to kick off St. Patrick’s Day week! The band was obviously having a great time on stage, and the crowd loved it.
PHOTOGRAPHER’S NOTES: I got so many fantastic shots of this band, I could hardly fit them in one post. Not only is this band highly photogenic with all it’s energy and the instruments they play, but Congress Theater did a great job with lighting, big and bright. I was shooting comfortably at 1600 ISO — a big deal! Add to that Flogging Molly’s large backdrop of a somewhat baroque building, for a touch of atmosphere. This is one of my all-time favorite venues to shoot from, and even with the standard 3-song-no-flash rule, I got a ton of shots that I’m very happy with!
