It’s always nice to be pleasantly surprised by an opening act you’ve never heard before, and Mayer Hawthorne and The County was an interesting band to open for Passion Pit’s show at Congress. These guys played a soulful set of throwback Motown songs, completely dressed to the part. So I took the opportunity to crack my knuckles, so to speak, to prepare for Passion Pit.
Photographer’s Notes: What I liked about this set was the fact that being a throwback Motown/Soul band, these guys didn’t excessively spaz around the stage, and mostly stayed in one spot. This allowed me to break out my 85mm 1.8 and snap plenty of individual shots, to complement the wider group shots. And if you know my work, you’ll know that I’m a portraitist first, concert photographer second. So shooting this set was right up my alley.
