So, there’s a music event every Sunday at the Echo nightclub here in Los Angeles, called Part Time Punks.

It’s a weekly dance night for fans of post-punk, darkwave, synthwave, and dreampop, with theme nights from Siouxsie and the Banshees to Pulp Night and the ever-popular Smiths/Morrissey Night.  But every other week or so, they showcase a lineup of live music acts, either native to LA or on tour from nearby or abroad.

This week’s PTP headlined SOFT METALS, an LA-turned-Portland synthwave duo with ethereal dreamscape vibes and catchy, pulsating beats.

Opening the evening, was Bay Area power trio Houses of Heaven, playing bleak, electronic psychedelic post-punk.  I was fond of their set, with one song riff in particular vaguely familiar of The Stone Roses’ “I Wanna Be Adored”

Second on stage was CHASMS, a dark droning shoegaze duo, also from Bay Area.  Their set was mostly shrouded in darkness, but it was rather fitting for their bleak sonic soundscapes.

Last, but not least, was Soft Metals, a soothing blend of female siren song over dark, sexy dance beats:
