Suedehead @ House Of Blues Los Angeles

In preparation for shooting Flogging Molly, I got to limber up by shooting opening band Suedehead, a soulful motown-meets-punk rock band playing a high-energy set for eager fans at the House Of Blues.

Surprised I was to learn that in spite of the lead singer’s heavy UK accent, Suedehead hails from neighboring Orange County California.  Of note was their soulful rendition of Fugazi’s “Waiting Room.”

PHOTOGRAPHER’S NOTES:  For an opening band, the lighting treatment was more than favorable.  Lots of blue and purple hues to give a moody aesthetic, complemented by plenty of front lighting to make the performers stand out.  And it was nice to be able to include the drummer in lots of shots, being that he was set up further toward the front of the stage.  I would have liked to grab more shots of the horn section, but angle accessibility and lighting were not optimal.

All in all though, I am very pleased with the shots I came away with from an opening band I was previously unfamiliar with.  Sometimes that’s more than I can ask for.
